Laurent Garnier - Man With The Red Face (Mark Knight and Funkagenda mix)
It’s back again. The track we all knew and loved back in 1999. Laurent Garnier’s awesome epic anthem “The Man With The Red Face”. It gets a re-work from the ToolRoom boys Mark Knight and Funkagenda. I have to say when I heard this had been redone I was a bit skeptical as there is alot of badly done reworking of sacred classics going around at the moment. But I have to say, having listened to it from start to finish and mixing it a bit, it is a really good tribute to the legendary original. Not a remake, but more of a tip of the hat to Garnier. It will probably be hammered around club land and people will grow a bit tired of it, bit it is one of th0se tracks that will stay in record bags for a long time. It has all the elements of the original but has added a few more tweeks and edits, including a longer intro and the original saxaphone seems to peak and roll for even longer. Get it if you can.
This track comes off a 3 track, pink coloured 12 inch. The tracks are all based on the Aaron Carl 1996 garage house track ‘Crucified’. Let me start by saying that this track isn’t going to burn down the house, it has no infectious hook, not stomping baseline, just pure, sweeping, hypnotic deepness. With its repetitive loop of the “like a river’ portion of the original, a simple soft jabbing chord and subtle baseline, it really manages to get inside your head and not let go. It’s a long track, a full side of a 33rpm 12 inch, but it keeps its relentless deepness throughout and really lets you get lost in it. All three tracks here are fantastic but for me this b side mix is the best.
Nu Frequency - Go That Deep (Charles Webster Remix)
Beautiful piece of music here as ever from Charles Webster. Featuring the vocals from the Massive Attack vocalist Shara Nelson. The 4/4 beat takes a back seat on this one and it works really well as it lets the vocals shine. A rolling brooding baseline with a spine tingling hypnotic synth. This is a hugely emotive track and gets two thumbs up from me. Its out on vinyl already and a digital release later in the month. I have just heard another Webster remix of the same track (Remix 2) and it sound pretty decent too. This one is the pick of the bunch for me though.
Fish go Deep are Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson from Cork, Ireland. They have been playing records in public since the late 1980's. Be sure to check out their weekly radioshow podcast. A must for the Deep House fan who want's to hear the best, yet to be released tracks. - #
